Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves the use of a motorised sterile specialised device with multiple tiny needles to create controlled micro-incisions on the scalp. The micro-injuries stimulate the bodies natural regenerative process, stimulating production of collagen and growth factors, which are important for hair follicle regeneration and hair growth.
It has gained popularity in the hair loss & dermatological fields as a potential adjuvant treatment for hair loss and works well in combination with PRP/PRF & appropriate medical therapy .
When performed by a qualified health practitioner the area can be anaesthetised if required, using either a topical or injectable anaesthetic (lignocaine). Microneedling efficacy may vary subject to the protocol, i.e. understanding the depth within the dermis, frequency and length of time that it should be applied. Each protocol is unique & tailored to the patients needs.

Microneedling also enhances the absorption of topical hair growth products, such as minoxidil or platelet-rich plasma (PRP), into the deeper layers of the scalp, potentially maximising their effectiveness.

Some studies and anecdotal evidence suggest that microneedling may lead to improvements in hair density, thickness, and overall hair health. It is often used as a complementary treatment alongside other hair loss therapies.
The frequency of microneedling sessions varies depending on individual needs, but it is usually recommended to undergo multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart to achieve optimal results.
Microneedling is generally considered safe when performed by a trained professional, but minor side effects like redness, swelling, and mild discomfort may occur, which typically subside within a few days.
